Introduction to CDM & JI
This section provides information on the theory behind the CDM and JI mechanisms. Simply click on the links in the submenu on the left hand side.
Starting with the theory and legalities of CDM and JI, the focus moves to the current status regarding their implementation. This provides a general description of what constitutes a climate change mitigation project under the Kyoto Protocol and sets out the schematic procedure in the example of an ideal project cycle. This is followed with an explanation of the relationship between the CDM/JI mechanisms and emissions trading, together with an outline of the carbon market for CDM/JI-generated emission reduction certificates. Other topics covered include the KfW Carbon Fund and cooperation with host countries. The Special Project Types link leads to a presentation on domestic offset projects and voluntary offset schemes.
