Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) and CDM
More and more focus is being placed on carbon capture and storage (CCS) as a potential CDM protect activity. This paper takes
up the controversial debate. It looks at the technical and methodological aspects and their implications as regards climate
policy. It also outlines the potential role of CCS in achieving long-term climate change targets in order to identify the
technical and methodological issues involved. This is followed by an overview of stakeholders’ standpoints on CCS and its
inclusion in the CDM. The conclusions highlight the issues that must be taken into account at MOP 4 when deciding on whether to
include CCS in the CDM.
JIKO policy papers are written and published by the Wuppertal Institute on behalf of the German Environment Ministry (BMU). The
positions expressed in this policy paper are strictly those of the authors and represent neither the opinion of the Wuppertal
Institute nor of the BMU.
